| Written below is my own perspective and opinion-able review of soon to be released Everybody’s Fine staring Robert DeNiro, Kate Beckinsale, Drew Barrymore, and Sam Rockwell as per requested by Click Communications. If you haven’t seen the movie yet and don’t want to read any spoilers or any hints of a giveaway, than please don’t read it.
My perspective of Everybody’s Fine is it is your mellow family drama about your normal typical family of 4 children an a father who live their trouble lives across America after the passing of their mother 5 months ago. I find that the movie is a little slow starting out in the plot as it revolves around Robert DeNiro’s character planning a family get together while not realizing that his children cannot make it due to each having their own personal problems and not wanting their father to find out due to not wanting him to be disappointed. So due to his children pulling out of the family visit, he decides to travel across country by buss or train to visit his distanced family, one at a time unexpectedly.
While DeNiro’s character is a bit charming at times, I do not think this is his best role. I haven’t seen many of his movies, but I do know that he has done somewhat better than this. I think his character (note, not his acting!) is rather flat and needs a bit more pijazz. Kate Beckinsale’s performance seems normal and very typical for her characters part, which she plays a mother living in Chicago partly owning and working in the advertisement business. I also however think this is not her best performance. I am more for her taking on action and historical roles. And yet again, she pulled off an almost perfect American Accent. Sam Rockwell, now I don’t know much about him or his movies hence that I have only seen 1 other movie of him an it was Snow Angels, so I can’t really judge him on his acting chops. But to me his character seem rather flat as well as DeNiro’s. But who am I to judge his acting chops on since I haven’t really seen his work. Drew Barrymore’s character in my oppinion is a bit more livelier than the others, or should I say a bit more cheerful & upbeat, I guess that is because her character is a show girl living in Vegas; who has a bigger family secret of her own, which all viewers will found out in the end. But in the end, after DeNiro individually visits each one, talking about life, problems, why they haven’t visited, and why their mother was a better listner and he is a better talker, everybody and everyone is fine, all together for Christmas time as they used to before DeNiro’s wife
passed away.
This dvd doesn’t come with too many bonus features like some dvd’s does, but what it does come which is, the making of Paul McCartney’s I want to,sneak peeks, and 7 deleted / extended scenes. My personal favorite of bonus features are bloopers, which this one did not come with.
Now what did I think of it? Well honestly, it wasn’t one of my favorite movies, it was a bit dull, but not dull enough for you to sit down and watch the whole thing. I just wish that Kate’s part was a bit larger due to that she was the solely purpose of watching it. I now can see why it wasn’t a total hit at the box office, the story line & plot isn’t very strong enough for it to generate buzz to make people want to go see it and tell others about it. After watching the movie, I believe I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
